Position Title: Graphic Designer
Division: Commerce
Department:  Marketing
Reports toDirector of Marketing
FLSA Status: Hourly, Non-Exempt

Position Summary Deliver creative, brand-aligned design solutions for Pacific Science Center’s external and internal marketing and communication needs.
Essential Duties & Responsibilities

  • Conceptualizes and produces design solutions including, but not limited to, campaigns, collateral materials, posters, brochures, invitations, environmental graphics, and web elements.
  • Upholding Design Standard Operating Procedures
    • Managing the process (presenting concepts, coordinating with clients, quotes, invoices, scheduling, production and delivery) of all design projects.
    • Working with clients/project managers to find creative solutions and manage expectations.
    • Coordinating with project managers to build realistic timelines and communicating any changes that could impact design schedules.
  • Maintaining brand alignment throughout all design projects.
  • Other duties as assigned including alternative service.

Position Requirements

Knowledge of:

  • Graphic Design Theory (Typography, Color Theory, Composition & Layout)

Skills Required:

  • Excellent time management skills
  • Excellent verbal and written communication skills
  • Adobe Creative Cloud proficient

Skills Preferred:

  • Microsoft Office proficient (Word, Excel, PowerPoint, Outlook)
  • Basic HTML and CSS
  • Email Marketing Software: MailChimp, ConstantContact
  • Familiarity with WordPress

Skills Desired:

  • Illustration

Ability to:

  • Ability to excel in small team environment
  • Ability to handle multiple tasks, prioritize, and complete projects under tight deadlines
  • Ability to work with employees at all levels
  • Act as a team player and have a positive mental attitude
  • Maintain organized digital project files


  • Three to five years Graphic Design experience
  • Print Production Experience including preparing files for print and working with vendors (quotes, proofs, invoicing)

Physical Demands & Working Conditions

While performing the duties of this job, will be occasionally required to stand; walk; sit; use hands to finger, handle, or feel objects, tools or controls; reach with hands and arms; climb stairs; balance; stoop, kneel, crouch or crawl; talk or hear.  Occasional boxes may need to be lifted including boxes of printed materials. Exposure to dust, fumes, and chemicals may also be expected. Specific vision abilities required by the job include close vision, distance vision, depth perception, peripheral vision, and the ability to adjust focus. The position works in both an office and the Science Center environment. The noise level varies from low to moderate

Position will require extended hours (evenings/weekends) during peak activity periods when design needs are increased. This position does often require multi-tasking, the ability to work specific shifts, rotate shifts, or rotate work assignments/tasks as needed.
